Travel Places: Coastal town, Vleesbaai

Once a year we are lucky enough to visit the coastal town, Vleesbaai. It’s about a four-hour drive from Cape Town, South Africa which means we usually make a long weekend out of it.

The town was first spotted by the well-known European explorer, Bartolomeu Dias, in 1488. However, Vleesbaai, only got its name more than a century later. This little vacation town only has a few rental accommodation options so we are very happy to have the chance to visit every year.

With a handful of houses and one shop (that closes for lunch and at noon on Saturdays), this town is a perfect relaxation spot. It’s a place to walk, swim, read, angle, barbeque and take long, long naps anytime you want. For bookings, you can visit Gumtree, but beware that you need to book long in advance of your planned holiday. You can make a day trip from nearby Mosselbay if you struggle to find accommodation in Vleesbaai.
